Mathew Helman

Mathew Helman is the Communications Director of the Massachusetts
Budget and Policy Center (MBPC). Prior to joining MBPC in 2006, Mathew
spent most of the previous four years on Beacon Hill, more recently as
Director of Communications and Local Outreach for State Senator Karen
Spilka of Ashland, and before that as Legislative Aide for State
Representative Ruth Balser of Newton. Prior to his time on Beacon Hill,
Mathew served as Deputy Finance Director for former U.S. Secretary of
Labor Robert Reich's 2002 gubernatorial campaign in Massachusetts, and
has also held seasonal internship positions during his time in graduate
school with the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the U.S. Senate
Committee on Small Business, the Office of U.S. Senator John Kerry, and
the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. In his
spare time, Mathew volunteers at the Perkins School for the Blind in
Watertown, MA. Mathew earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in politics
from Brandeis University in Waltham, MA, and his Master of Public
Administration degree from The George Washington University in
Washington, DC.
