This new line item proposed by the Governor for the Kindergarten Entry Assessment System is designed to assess children's readiness for school.

The Kindergarten Entry Assessment System supports tools and training for teachers, and data collection and assessments which are developed to align with the K-12 Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS). The entry system was written into EEC's charter in General Law Chapter 15D at EEC's inception in FY 2006. Because of insufficient funding, implementation did not begin until federal "Race to the Top" funding was awarded to Massachusetts and allocated for this system. The system was piloted in 24 districts including approximately 17,500 students in 2012.
