Funding for K1 Classroom Grant Program

comparisons adjusted for inflation (CPI)

The K-1 Classroom Grant program would fund new pre-k classrooms in cities and towns around the state with a goal of increasing school readiness and improving 3rd grade reading. Gateway cities and districts with struggling schools receive preference. Implementation of this program had not begun by the middle of the fiscal year and funding for this program was subsequently cut in a mid year budget bill eliminating the program.

Funding for the K-1 Classroom Grant would be given to school districts or educational collaboratives. Guidelines are set jointly by the Department of Early Education and Care and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education with the intent to increase school readiness and 3rd grade reading scores. Funding for this program was cut in a mid year budget bill.
