Notes

  • Prior to FY12, the Commission on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Youth was funded by an earmark in the School-Based Health Programs line item (4590-0250) in the Dept. of Public Health. In FY04-FY05, the earmark was $250,000. In FY06-FY08 the earmark was $350,000, in FY09 it was $550,000, and in FY10-FY11 the funding was unspecified. These totals are not included here. In FY12, funding for the Commission's operations moved to a distinct line item in the Governor's Office, although funding for implementation was still within the Dept. of Public Health.

The Massachusetts Commission on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Youth (GLBTQ Youth) is an independent state commission that advises state agencies on programs that help GLBTQ Youth.

Governor William Weld created the Governor's Commission on GLBT Youth in 1992. In 2006 after Governor Mitt Romney dissolved the Governor's Commission, the Legislature created a permanent Commission on GLBT Youth. Beginning in Fiscal Year 2004 funding for both the operations of the Commission and implementation of its recommendations was included in the school-based health programs account overseen by the Department of Public Health (DPH). Starting in FY 2012 the Legislature created a separate account to fund the operations of Commission on GLBTQ Youth. The school-based health centers continue to receive funding to implement the Commission's recommendations.
