Facts At A Glance: House 1 Proposed Spending by Category

This pie chart shows spending by policy category in the Governor’s FY 2010 budget proposal. It includes spending reimbursed by the federal government as well as state source spending. As a result, the Health Care category appears disproportionately large because the largest health care program, Medicaid, receives roughly half of its funding from the federal government but all of the spending shows up in the budget. A more complete description of the programs included in each category can be found on MassBudget’s Budget Browser at: http://browser.massbudget.org/CategoryDescriptions.aspx. Readers can also use the Budget Browser to track state spending on specific programs over the last decade, as well as compare the different proposals for the FY 2010 budget process. This chart does not include spending from ARRA money (the stimulus law) that the Governor has announced since releasing House 1.
